It’s not the first time we’ve talked about Big Data. We’ve talked about it various time throughout the year, as one of the most sought after professions, and even as a possible way to peek into the future before it reaches us. But seriously, what is Big Data and why is everyone talking about it?
Let’s break it down for you: In the last three years we’ve generated more information than in the entire history of mankind since someone came up with scribbling things down on a clipboard. And we shouldn’t be surprised. Large scale computing, Internet, large search engines and the popularization of social media have made it impossible to not leave a data trail where ever we go. Using our credit cards in one place, with the time stamp and business saved; an internet search for things we’re interest in, a ‘like’ on Facebook, GPS on our mobile phones… it’s not that everything can’t be measured, it’s that it’s already being measured! So Big Data is, simply put, a massive collection of all kinds of information. But we’re talking about so much data than an Excel spreadsheet is not nearly enough and new, more advanced technology is required to handle the dozens, if not hundreds of variables.
All of this can have its drawbacks, of course. So come on, let’s open the debate! But today we want to focus on the advantages it has for those who want to start up or who have already created their startup.
Bid Data advantages
• Advantage #1: Are you still looking for a business idea? Look for it in Big Data! Of course, before diving into this huge ocean of data that awaits you, we recommend that you become very acquainted with what you’re getting yourself into. Health? Education? Transport? Big Data can offer you many market trends, but you’re the one who needs to decide where and when you want to jump in.
• Advantage #2: Make yourself a Big Data expert. Because yes, it’s true that there are great companies and great professionals taking advantage of everything Big Data offers, but don’t forget that it was just a few years ago that we started to collect and handle data on a massive scale, so there’s still room for you to join!
• Advantage #3: Ask yourself what can Big Data do for me? Likely, more than you think. There’s an expression in the industry that says if you haven’t got a problem with the data analysis of your startup, then you’re doing something wrong. We’re not going to exaggerate as much, but always keep in mind that information in key, either to reach your customers or to know what you’re doing wrong.
The truth is that we’re still just getting a glimpse into what lies ahead with Big Data analysis. In fact, many people still aren’t clean on what it is, but we know that for restless entrepreneurs it represents countless business opportunities. Are you ready?
