London has long been considered as one of the world’s great cities and it seemed as if it would be relatively unchallenged when it came to the title of ‘Europe’s Top Tech City’. However, Berlin has made remarkable strides over the last few years and has laid down a considerable challenge to London’s supremacy in the tech world.

Below, the world’s largest graphic design company, 99designs take a look at how both cities fare in tech terms before deciding whether or not Berlin is set to take London’s crown.

The startup ecosystem in Croatia is still young but it’s already very busy. This is due to the solid base of young, hard-working entrepreneurs with great ideas and who are highly qualified in the areas of technology plus a good command on the English language that has existed in the country for many years. Unfortunately, what doesn’t exist yet are investors and capital to start up.

In general, the Italian ecosystem is growing and shows encouraging signs. It has a fragmented growth depending on regions: some, in fact, invest in youth and innovation, while others are still struggling to invest in startups. According to the latest report by the Italian Chambers of Commerce, the number of innovative startups increased by 5.8% in the first three months of 2016 and job creation has also increased. The presence of women is still not adequate but we should point out that there is quite a lot of youth present in the ecosystem and is more significant than in other “non-startup” business sectors. Young people are active mainly in business services and are taking on a central role in the research field. The region of Lombardy is the queen of startups with a total of 1,183 startups, but Trentino-Alto Adige is the region with the highest incidence of startups in relation to capital companies.

The former president of the United States, George W. Bush, couldn’t have been any more wrong when he said a few years ago that the French lacked a word for entrepreneur. In 2015 alone French startups raised 960 million euros, joining the ranks of the million euro club with the likes of Germany, Isreal and the UK, thanks to more than 115 financing operations accomplished by companies like BlaBlaCar and Sigfox and the investment activity from firms such as Bpifrance, Alven Capital and Idinvest Partner.

It’s not necessary to get into more detail to show that France is shedding its old reputation that led Bush to make the previously mentioned comment.
